What a sin... and boy did I ...

What a sin...and boy did I suffer. So many gratuitous sex scenes that took forever to consummate!!!! Not enough meat in the storyline and then to top it all off there is a right out of left field "goal" that was so far fetched and not at all cultivated. And FYI, Pepper, members of MC gangs in Florida don't call each other "bloke."

Mixed emotions. I wanted to like it more than I did.

Sin and Suffer is a MC second-chance romance by Pepper Winters. The introductions of each chapter are in a flashback journal entry and alternating POV by Arthur “Kill” Killian, or Cleo Price.
This book picks up where Ruin and Rule ends. Cleo is has been taken by Dagger Rose and Arthur is in the hospital suffering from a head injury. Kill is looking for revenge. Cleo is looking for answers and the truth.
I had pre-ordered S&S, but when it arrived, I was ill and couldn’t read it. I got the audio book too. I HAD to know what was going to happen. I’m not sure if it was because I was listening to the story vs. reading it, I didn’t enjoy the story as much as the first. The narrator was excellent. I switched to reading when I felt better hoping it would help me become more engrossed in the story because you can read faster than you listen to an audio book. I think the mystery that was so engaging in the first wasn’t there in the second.
Without giving spoilers away, I thought the author did try to create the mystery with the Wall Street and Kill’s master plan. I found the master plan somewhat stretched believability even with the current state of the US political system. The whole Cleo/Rubix kidnapping, I found it situation odd. Kill and Cleo seemed off too. Kill was protective in ways that didn’t make sense. Cleo had legitimate reasons to be mad at him for HUGE things but always swept her feelings under the rug because of some excuse for him. The sexy parts were boring towards the end. While it was good and interesting, it wasn’t as engrossing and satisfying as R&R. I was kind of disappointed.

Summary
Sin & Suffer is the conclusion of Cleo and Arthur's story. After the first book, Ruin & Rule, we find female lead Cleo captured by a rival MC club. Arthur will stop at nothing to get her back. Despite his declining health, he leads his club on a mission to find her. Will he get there in time to save her? Will he be able to avenge her?
What Did I Think?
After not quite liking book 1, I find myself reading book 2. Why, you ask? Well, I'm a known book masochist, so that's a silly question. In all seriousness, I just can't seem to leave a story without reaching its conclusion. (I must have the whole story!) It's a matter of hours vested versus hours lost. And unfortunately for me, the finale did little to change my initial perspective and tipped the scales towards hours lost. I had to know regardless.
Hopefully you've seen the movie Austin Powers. Do you remember the ridiculous plot Dr Evil hashed out in the film? Do you remember how much you laughed as it was revealed because the sheer silliness of it made you giddy? Yes, well, reading this book, I had that same feeling. That free flowing laughter of a completely comical plot was ever present. I can't really describe the lengths of which this book hit the cheesy factor without spoiling it, so sadly, I must be vague in my description.
The revenge and vigilantism in this book skirt the fringes of my tolerance for fiction. From book 1, we already know the main lead is a millionaire math genius motorcycle club president in love with his newly found amnesiac soulmate from his past. However reaching this story line is, it doesn't begin to compare with the retaliation plan and reveal of government scandal in this book. (Let the record state, I find this book is way over the top!) I can't even embellish the rating with good sex because I couldn't bring myself to care. And it's a shame. The love scenes were beautifully written. They were passionate and sweet. They would be panty melting if it felt at all believable. This left me feeling cheated. If the story would have been better, the sweet words and passionate love shared between the main characters wouldn't have fallen on deaf ears. Instead, I gave my rolling eyes a workout.
I won't ramble on. I didn't care for either book in this series, but despite my less than favorable review of this story, Pepper Winters is a wonderful writer. And some people like coffee while others like tea, so I encourage you to read her story and review it for yourself. Perhaps you will find it a more pleasant read than I..
