Very informative, well worth the money.

I was a bit reluctant about purchasing this at first, given Prima's notorious reputation. In my experience, their guides have been pretty terrible compared to ones like the official Nintendo ones. However, Nintendo stopped producing guides a few years ago, so we're pretty much stuck with brands like Prima and BradyGames. That said, I was very much surprised when I began using this.

Firstly, let me just say that Ocarina of Time itself doesn't really require a strategy guide; the game is fairly straightforward. This is really a collector's item. I bought it to have the heart piece and skulltula locations nearby while playing. In terms of information, this guide does a wonderful job. It's very easy to understand, and it's composed of five different sections, including one dedicated to Master Quest (the 2nd quest in the game).

I don't really have any complaints about this guide. Is it worth the standard twenty dollar price tag of a strategy guide? Probably not. You can find all of this information (and way more) on websites like GameFAQs, but this is a convenient reference to go by. If you think you'll want to do a complete run of this, I Would definitely recommend it, but if you just want to do the story, then I say play the game without the guide so you'll have more fun.

Very comprehensive guide

Okay so I definitely bought the 3DS just because Nintendo decided to remake Ocarina of Time. Needless to say anymore about that, i will mention that this was one of my favorite games to play when I was younger. I Actually still have two excellent condition guides from the N64 edition of this game. 1st I have the BRADYGAMES Official strategy guide and second I have the Official Nintendo Player's guide.

This new Ocarina of Time game guide created by Prima is amazing. It is so much more comprehensive of the entire game than either of the other two books. There are no details left out, the people at Prima definitely spent a lot of time orchestrating this book. The maps are all clearly and accurately marked so that you can find anything you are looking for whether it be a gold skulltulas, a heart-piece, or just a treasure chest in a dungeon. The older books that I have are each lacking in their maps and side-quests. Not to mention that the older books don't even cover the Master's quest found on the 3DS edition of this game. In addition to that the older books don't have nearly as much information about finding items and collecting skulltulas, or how to make your way through the temples. Plus the button system to play the songs for the ocarina are completely different. Clearly the strategy guides that are made today are quite a bit better than the older ones.

I bet if you wanted to you can look around on the internet and find all of this information for free, but it wouldn't be as well organized and you would probably end up having to use multiple sources, which when I'm playing a game i find to be a pain in the butt. This book has an excellent table of contents right in the front that will direct you to find whatever you're currently looking for. The guide basically has a step by step strategy you could just read along and do exactly what it says or you can find your way through the castle and when you get stuck just find where you are at and read the book. The guide has mini small paragraph by paragraph explanations that assist you along the way, that can easily be skipped if you want to.

So basically if you're wanting to have a comprehensive guide of this game, in a neat, well organized, colorful book then I would definitely recommend this Strategy guide. It's not too expensive either. This book is packed with useful data in a well organized fashion. So if you are like me and you enjoy having a nice strategy guide book then I would recommend getting this one.

Helpful Guide to a very enjoyable game

So you have never purchased one of those computer game guides. I know, you say those books are for amateurs and softies who can't figure out things for themselves. Real gamers don't need to be told what lever to push or goon to crush to receive the next magic pellet - they should be able to figure it out all by their lonesome. Well, there is some validity to that POV and I will not try to convince you otherwise.

For the rest of us who may enjoy a particular game a well-illustrated guide complements the pleasure of playing. Having read many Zelda/Link guides very carefully I am aware that there are many aspects to those games that are not apparent- in fact unless you were informed you would completely miss out on some very cool aspects of the game.

My time is limited so my interest here is more with collecting the Zelda/Link games and guidebooks. I like the continuity of the game franchise, the creativity of the game play and the high quality of the artwork both in the games and the guidebooks. The "Ocarina of Time" guide keeps the high standards of other Zelda/Link books and will enhance your game play.

Decent Big Data Book Falls Flat In A Few Areas

This book is divided into two parts with the first part introducing concepts about Big Data, and the second part discussing implementations of Big Data. I found the first part to use confusing wording, while the second part was written much better. I would give the first part 3-stars and the second part 5-stars if I was rating them individually.

The first part of the book (Chapters 1-4) introduces a lot of acronyms and words that were glossed over. A lot of sentences were written in overly complicated language. To give an example on page 36 the discussion is about Business Process Management:

"When BPM is combined with BPMSs that are intelligent, processes can be executed in a goal-driven manner. Goals are connected to process fragments that are dynamically chosen and assembled at run-time in alignment with the evaluation of the goals. When the combination of Big Data analytics results and goal-driven behavior are used together, process execution can become adaptive to the marketplace and responsive to environmental conditions."

I found wording like this to be bogged down in corporate mumbo-jumbo and had I difficulty understanding in a lot of places.

Chapter three felt particularly lazy to me. The exact same diagram that took up 3/4th's of the page was used 10 seperate times in chapter without any variation to the diagram (see the attached photo to get an idea). It shows a nine-step process, and for each step the diagram is shown without even highlighting the step we are on.

Luckily the second part redeems itself. MapReduce, different NoSQL databases, analytic techniques, and storage techniques were described well here. The second part of the book gave much clearer and more concrete examples. The writing was much better in the second part of the book. This led me to believe the parts were written mostly seperately by the authors.

Linking the chapters together is an insurance company called ETI. This is used as a case study at the end of each chapter. I felt the choice of an aging insurance company to be uninspiring for a big data solution. The analysis was oversimplified in these sections. For example, the authors might say something like the engineers at ETI are unfamiliar with CAP Theorem so they may need additional training. Or in one part, they said the company chose to go with a NoSQL database, but they do not mention what type of NoSQL database. I also noticed the writing in the second part to be better for these sections as well.

Overall this book does a decent job of conveying the concepts for big data. It is heavily geared towards a corporate environment as there is almost zero talk of implementating a Big Data solution on your own. I felt it covered the topic pretty well though, but would have like to see the authors discuss specific technologies more, rather than gearing the book towards getting certified in Big Data.

I love the premise of this book. It is such a healthy and nurturing way to be with, to discipline and to lead our children. I am a mother of three girls, one very fiery- we butt heads a lot. I haven't had time to read the whole book yet, but I skimmed and perused and got the gist of it, and put it into action today!

My three year old was screaming at me for something (a regular occurrence) and so suddenly (remembering "Healing Stories..") I asked her if I had ever told her the story of Screamy Mimi. She quieted instantly and all ears perked up. I told a story, using what I had learned, about a little girl who screamed at everyone instead of talking and so no one could understand what she was saying. Anyway, she finds an owl in the forest who teachers her how to communicate in a way that people will listen and finds great friendship and happiness. No more screaming! Today at least :)

The wisdom is invaluable, I can see this book as possibly the defining outside source of my parenting style (along with Simplicity Parenting, of course). Highly recommended.

Simply lovely! 'Healing Stories for Challenging Behavior' is tailored to help children and parents in the best possible way, by creating an environment of better understanding through story-telling.

For many parents story-telling is not easy. However, Susan Perrow has set out to make it much easier and much more rewarding. She provides a step-by-step story-telling guide and introduces the reader to her own excellent stories, as well as stories from around the world that will help families to soothe hurt feelings and solve problems. The book inspires imagination and offers practical ideas on how to deal with challenging behavior.
Wholeheartedly recommended!

Healing Stories for Challenging Behaviour

Love this book. The title is deceptive (I think) and this is my only critical remark on it. If you could only buy one book on storytelling to children, this would be it. This is not only about storytelling but gives actual stories that are unique and easy/fairly easy to memorize. And the children love them. I ignored this book for months because of the title, since I didn't have "problem" children or behaviour problems to speak of. But once I actually looked into the book I saw that there was much more here than what the title incurred. I recommend this to anyone serious about teaching or raising healthy children through the wonder of storytelling.

Used this book all three times I was pregnant....with complete success. Of course, each time we didn't really care what sex the baby was as long as (s)he was healthy; but we thought it would be fun to try it & see if it worked nonetheless. About the Author
Nabia Abbott was born in Turkey in 1897. As a young child she was taken by her family across the Middle East to India, where she was educated in British schools and remained until after the First World War. Later she lived in Iraq and finally in the United States, where in 1933 she became the first female faculty member of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. A leading scholar of Arabic, she specialised in deciphering early Islamic papyri. Abbott was the author of seven books and dozens of magazine articles. She died in 1981.

Best scholarly book on Aisha

Aisha bint Abu Bakr was, by all accounts, a strikingly beautiful and intelligent girl. She was also the Prophet Mohammed's favorite wife and, in his words, "the only woman in whose company I receive any revelations." She came to be called "the Mother of the Believers."

It's surprising that so little has been written about her. You can fill a library with books about Mary, Christ's mother and even Mary Magdalene has been the subject of a number of books and articles. I was unable to find anything about Aisha, except for Nabia Abbott's AISHA: BELOVED OF MOHAMMED. Published originally in 1942 by the University of Chicago where its author served on the faculty, it was reprinted in 1988 and 1998 by Saqi Books in London.

The tone of Professor Abbott's writing is formal and somewhat stilted, in my opinion. She was an educated woman and fluent in the formal English of the college classroom, but I don't believe English was her native tongue. She was born in Turkey and fluent in Arabic. She was also the first woman to join the prestigeous Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. She passed away in 1981.

Her biography of Aisha starts with her marriage to the Prophet at the age of 6. It then describes how she joined Mohammed's harem at the age of 10. She was approximately 18 at the time he died and was buried beneath the floor of her apartment.

Abbott includes a lot of information about Aisha's role after Mohammed's death. She demonstrated her mettle, as she had before, and reminded me of Elizabeth I in terms of political acumen and insight. Abbott's book includes a lot of information I've never seen anyplace else, especially about this critical period in Islam's early history.

At the end of her life, Aisha expressed the wish that she'd never been born. That's both tragic and ironic considering her contributions to Islam's formative period and the fact that her name was Arabic for "She who Lives."

If you're interested in Islam, the Middle East, women's studies, the Prophet or religion you'll like this book. Abbott strives for scholarly objectivity, but is intent on making sure the reader understands the historical context of the times into which this memorable girl was born.

This book is scholarly, well-written (if a bit dated in tone) and the only book I've seen on Aisha. I gave it five stars.

Unnecessarily Insensitive Writer

Nabia Abbott's lack of respect and insentivity to Islam and its leaders is very rude and unpardonable. The introduction and early chapters put the reader off, especially Muslims, as it un-necessarily catagorizes and opinionizes the Prophet's actions, motives and the Quran's contents. It is unfortunate to read a well researched book with such slanting views. Her account of Muslim history seems balanced and unbiased from a sectarian point of view, though her own prejudices and preferences, as customary in her times, of an orientalist are evident throughout when she comments on individual actions and events. The book carries many themes and agendas of the writer in itself. At times, it reads like a history book, though on occasions, it has a flavour of a sociological commentary of the period and at times, a critical review of Islamic Injunctions and practices. It is unfortunate that a book that could have been a valuable historical reference has lost its impact due to the biases and bigotory of the writer towards a religion that has over a billion following on earth.

Good condition, trumps the prices at my school store...

Compared to the textbooks from other classes, this one is structured with very neat and easy to follow through organization. I doubt I have much say in whether or not you purchase this book- it seems to be based off of what your professor's syllabus asks, but if you do need a cheap text book in good condition, go to this book store. I wish I could have kept this to read for my own amusement but I bought it ultimately for a friend.

it takes the fun out of child development

The paperback version is nice because it's cheaper... but after reading it, I think I would prefer the hard cover. Paperback books of a small size are fine, but this one is too large to work as a paperback. I have a hard time reading it because if I put it on my lap it sort of flops over and I can't see the whole page.

As to the content... I found it to be a little insulting. A lot of the points the text makes are sort of trite and obvious. It says things like "children are our future." This is true, but it doesn't seem like something that needs to be said in a college level textbook.

It looks pretty, with nice pictures and quotes in the margins, but there just doesn't seem to be much substance. I think a topic as interesting as child development should have a more interesting book.

They do not make this clear at all but this is the international version. Which means you can't resale it. If you are planning on keeping it this is the way to go because it's cheeper. If not don't buy this version!
