About the Author

Charu C. Aggarwal is a research scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. A fellow of the IEEE and the ACM, he is the author/editor of ten books, an associate editor of several journals, and the vice-president of the SIAM Activity Group on Data Mining. Dr. Aggarwal has published over 200 papers, has applied for or been granted over 80 patents, and has received numerous honors, including the IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award and EDBT 2014 Test of Time Award. His research interests include performance analysis, databases, and data mining. He earned a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Avec les enfants, j'ai joué au jeu roi du bidonville, le cerf-volant, fait de pauvres morceaux de carton et de tissus qui emportent par-dessus la grisaille des toits tous les rêves de ce peuple d'emmurés. J'ai participé aux naissances, aux mariages, aux crémations, aux fêtes des hindous, des musulmans, des sikhs, des chrétiens et de toutes les communautés de cette mosaïque de peuples et de religions. J'ai tiré des rickshaws et roulé des "bidi' dans les ateliers-bagnes où des enfants de six et sept ans confectionnent plus de douze cents cigarettes par jour. J'ai fait la queue entre minuit et trois heures du matin pour aller aux latrines (il y a une latrines pour 2500 habitants) et j'ai appris à me laver de la tête aux pieds avec moins d'un demi-litre d'eau. Make room in your fridge!

Simple, fun, and delicious- these clear and easy-to-follow recipes are seriously greatl. I've already made a few cakes so far and each is better than the last. Though you're going to want to rush this into your pie hole (cake hole?) you should heed their warnings about setting times!

Lovely delicious little book!

Love this book! The flavor combinations are inventive, yet so approachable. Salty Milk Dud? Yes, please! Lemon-caramel? Sign me up! I love that there are recipes for making absolutely everything from scratch (wafers, grahams, creams, puddings, and sauces), but they give tips if you want to use store-bought shortcut ingredients instead. I never thought to use the Trader Joe's Meyer Lemon Thins in an ice box cake before now.
The book is beautifully photographed, the writing is witty, the recipes are easy to follow, and delicious to boot! Such a great book!

Icebox cakes---some are a lot of work, an awful lot of work! Don't let the idea of an icebox cake make you think that these recipes are easy---they're not. Interesting but a whole lotta work for some mighty small cakes.

Learn Eruption Step-By-Step At A Playable Speed for Intermediate Skill Level & Up

I just got this book and the break-down of "Eruption" by itself is worth the price of admission. The book comes with a code where you can go online and download the accompanying audio files. The songs are broken up into 4 or 5 pieces on the audio files to aid with learning particular sections. The pieces are played at both normal speed and at 1/2 to1/4 speed so that an intermediate can keep up. These transcriptions are the real deal and even "Eruption" is manageable at the slow-demo speed for most intermediate players. The only downside to this product is that whole songs with backing tracks are not offered like with other Hal Leonard PLay-Along series publications like Van Halen 1978-1984: Guitar Play-Along Volume 50 (Hal Leonard Guitar Play-Along) I originally subtracted 1 star for not have the full length backing tracks, but decided not to as the author of this product probably had no control over this aspect.

You may wish to invest in a piece of music tempo software so that you can gradually increase the rpms of the tracks. I use Song Surgeon 4 (just google it) and I love it. There are also some cheaper alternatives that aren't quite as snazzy like Amazing Slowdowner.

Great but with one flaw...

The tabs and tracks are EXTREMELY well put together. So why only 4 stars? Because they didn't include these tracks on a CD that came with the book, which should have been done for this price. I had to download the tracks and then make my own CD, which was a pain in the a$$.

A good guide to learn the licks of the master Ed. Notes on each song give you the inside scoop on how to attack that section. It also includes the links to download both Full Band demos and slow demos to help you nail the tough stuff. Overall, a great guide to get you started on nailing Edward's music.

Greg Prato is a Long Island, New York-–based journalist, whose writing has appeared in such renowned publications as Rolling Stone, All Music Guide, and Classic Rock Magazine. Must-have for any Blind Melon or Shannon Hoon fan!

Blind Melon is my favorite band, and this book tells the whole story. From the beginning to the tragic end of Shannon Hoon's life. The interviews are interesting & the history of the band is complete. A great read for anyone who loves music.

From the mouths of those that were there

I opened this book and couldn't put it down until I finished it. It truly does tell the story of Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon, and tells it in the best possibly way; from the mouths of the people that lived it. The story is told in a series of quotes from band members, record company people, family and friends obtained through interviews by the author. And in the case of Hoon, the quotes were taken from published interviews from the 90's. There could no be no purer way for this story to be told. The interviewees were candid and open; they seemed to hold nothing back. Their words and stories spoke so clearly of those times and what Shannon Hoon meant to them that I truly felt that I got to know him and his tendencies through this book. I felt as if I truly had spent those hours not reading a book, but spending time with these people and their friend Shannon. Which made for emotional results even though I knew the end to this story. When the fateful end of Shannon Hoon's life came in this book I immediately felt the loss of him. My heart broke, and I missed him. Just from reading a book 13 and a half years after the event. I do not have the book in front of me as I review it, but someone in there said something along the lines of "everyone who met him thought Shannon was their best friend" and it was easy to see that.

As Shannon Hoon had the most powerful personality of the subjects in the book, and people seemed to speak most about their relationship with him, it is easy to focus on him. But through the honesty of Rogers Stevens, Christopher Thorn, Brad Smith, and Glen Graham you felt closer to them as well. They give valuable details of life in the band Blind Melon, everything from stories from the road to recollections of recording and some song meanings. A casual rock and roll fan will see from this book that Blind Melon was a band, and not just Shannon Hoon.

Your heart really goes out to the people that were close to Shannon Hoon. People whose lives were touched very deeply for knowing him, and who had to deal with the pain of losing him. I extend gratitude to those willing to speak about those times for this project, and credit to the author for the Shannon Hoon quotes he chose to give the singer's perspective of that time in his life with his band. Strongest recommendation for anyone that is a fan of 90's music, and this is a flat out must read for any Blind Melon fan.
